The Valley of Search

This painting was commissioned along with seven others to accompany a special edition of the mystic work, 'The Seven Valleys', published to commemorate the centenary of the passing of its author, the Persian prophet Bahá'u'lláh (1817 - 1892 CE).

The tale traces the journey of the soul, symbolised by the 'mystic wayfarer', throughout the worlds of God. In this instance the journey takes the form of seven valleys, through which the traveller must pass before he can be reunited with the object of his quest.

As Bahá'u'lláh says, "..the lover hath no desire save union with his beloved."

This painting is a visual impression of the "..cleansing of the heart.. from every marking (and a turning) away from imitation, which is following the traces of (our) forefathers and sires..". I am trying to depict the infinite realm of human existence as a universe, already full with marks, imitations and traces.
