The
Valley of True Poverty and Absolute Nothingness
If any vestige of self is left all is finally burned away in this valley. I have tried to reflect this in the picture. The fire goes into white to express the elimination of form, an erasing of the image. There are elements of the other paintings within this final one, as each valley suggested a different treatment. The white calligraphic marks, while reminisent of Mark Tobey's work, are also a device to depict the soul. Bahá'u'lláh revealed the word of God in Arabic and Persian script, so the marks He made are arguably the closest sign of God in existence. |
