'Embarkation',
pictured above, is in essence a painting about choices. Obedience
is as much a choice as disobedience. But obedience is not blind acceptance.
The central band
of figures are in the train of a man astride a donkey, who is about
to embark on a vessel. Who does the rider represent? The onlookers
represent humanity in its diverse forms. A figure towards the base
of the painting is looking out at us, as if wanting to know the onlooker's
decision.
Structurally,
I have based the composition around a nine-pointed star, a symbolic
interpretation of the all the numbers, and the highest prime digit.
The Bahá'í Faith plays an important part in the way I work. I have
my own ideas, but they are inevitably shaped and drawn towards the
highest ideal.
