Embarkation

'Embarkation', pictured above, is in essence a painting about choices. Obedience is as much a choice as disobedience. But obedience is not blind acceptance.

The central band of figures are in the train of a man astride a donkey, who is about to embark on a vessel. Who does the rider represent? The onlookers represent humanity in its diverse forms. A figure towards the base of the painting is looking out at us, as if wanting to know the onlooker's decision.

Structurally, I have based the composition around a nine-pointed star, a symbolic interpretation of the all the numbers, and the highest prime digit. The Bahá'í Faith plays an important part in the way I work. I have my own ideas, but they are inevitably shaped and drawn towards the highest ideal.
